Firehouse Chili Pasta Bake

3 c. (8 oz.) ziti, uncooked
1/2 lb. lean ground beef
1 c. diced green pepper
1/2 c. chopped onion
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1 T. chili powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. ground black pepper
1 can (about 14 oz.) chunky style tomatoes
1 1/3 cups (12 oz.) medium salsa
2 c. (8 oz.) shredded Monterey jack or Cheddar cheese, or a mix of both

Heat oven to 375°. Cook pasta according to package directions; drain. Meanwhile, in large skillet over medium heat, cook meat, green pepper, onion, garlic, chili powder, salt and pepper 10 minutes or until vegetables are tender and meat is thoroughly cooked, stirring occasionally. Stir in tomatoes and salsa; heat to boiling. Reduce heat; simmer 10 minutes. In 13x9 baking dish, stir together pasta and sauce until well blended; sprinkle with cheese. Bake 10 minutes or until cheese melts.
